Brian K. Shields, 61, of Fillmore, IN, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a brief illness Monday morning, September 21, 2026. He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 23 years Anastasia (Bennington) Shields, a son Jason Shields, two step-sons Dylan Burris of Florida and Justin Morgan of Indianapolis, a sister Peggy Sutherland of Pennsylvania, a grandson Brantley Burris of Greencastle, IN, former daughter-in-law and friend Jessica Burris of Huntington, IN, and several respected and admired friends and coworkers at POET Biorefinery in Cloverdale, IN, where he worked for 15 years. He served 8 years in the U.S. Navy (1987-1995) as a boiler technician aboard the USS Biddle, serving 2 tours during the Gulf War, earning 7 medals of commendation for service at sea including Coast Guard Special Operations, national defense service e, and Southwest Asia service.
