Carole LaMoyne (Gossett) Riggs passed away in her home surrounded by family on June 23, 2025. She was born on January 6, 1944 in Greencastle, Indiana to Martha (Grimes) and Everett Gossett. Carole was the beloved wife of John Riggs; beloved mother to Susan Nichole (Grant) Shorter, James Flint (Judy) Anderson, Heidi Riggs (Brian) Zimmerman, and Shawn Justin (Becky) Riggs; treasured grandmother to Chancy Lane (Natasha) Anderson, Sam Zimmerman, Ben Zimmerman, Shelby Zimmerman, Nathan (Mason) Riggs, and Chloe Riggs; and 4 great grandchildren. She was also an amazing friend to many. Carole was a professional gospel singer in the 1980s. She played piano and was the choir director at the Fillmore United Methodist Church. Carole taught most of her life, both in and out of the classroom, retiring from Eminence School Corporation in 2004. She treasured her time with all of her students. She placed foreign exchange students, and loved to travel as often as she could.
To know Carole was to love her. She was adventurous, intelligent, witty, curious, charming, with an endearing smile that could light up a room and a heart as big as they come. She had a passion for knowledge and a lifelong affinity for all creatures great and small. To hear her sing, or play the piano was to glimpse her beautiful soul. Perhaps her greatest fault was in her innocence, which thought all she need do was to smile at the world and it would smile back at her. Which it did. Usually. But not always. She fought a long and courageous battle against cancer, which finally killed her. But while it took her life, it could not take her spirit, which walks hand in hand with all of us who loved her.
Visitation will be held at Bousley Funeral Home on Saturday, June 28, 11AM-1PM. Funeral service will be at 1PM. Burial will follow in Fillmore Cemetery.
