In loving memory of Freda Mae Crews who passed away on November 24, 2024 at the age of 90 years. She was born on April 1st, 1934 to Louisa Alice (Cline) and Chester Carson Cunningham in Fillmore, Indiana.
Freda attended Fillmore School and High School (1952 graduate). Freda graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing class of 1955 and worked as a registered nurse for the following throughout her life: Putnam County Hospital (1956-1959), Dr. Ellot in Coatsville, IN, Sunset Manor Long Term Care Facility, South Putnam School Corporation as school nurse (1973-1996). She had a passion for helping people.
Matthew 10:42 was her nurse life verse:
"You can be sure that whoever gives even a drink of cold water to one of the least of these my followers because he is my follower, will certainly receive a reward.”
She married her blind date Carl Crews, (brother of her nursing classmate Rachel (Crews) Bettag) in February of 1956. They celebrated 56 years of marriage in 2012 when Carl passed away.
She loved Jesus, and strived to follow Him. She sang in the choir at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, as well as in Greencastle Christian Church. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, acrylic painting, camping at Turkey Run and McCormick's Creek State Parks with family, and bird watching.
She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Chester Cunningham; son Curtis Ray Crews; husband Carl Edison Crews; Brother-in-law Thomas Gene Cash, and sister Ellen Joan Cash.
Surviving Freda are: her daughter, Karla Coll (Ken Coll) of Holly, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Barbara Crews of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandson, Alex Crews (Kyley Crews) of Indianapolis, Indiana and one great grandchild on the way. Also surviving are several neices and nephews.
Freda touched many lives throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at Bousley Funeral Home at 4980 N.Milton St., Coatesville, IN on Saturday, November 30, 2024. Visitation from 11:00AM-1:00 PM, Memorial Service at 1:00 PM. Interment in Coatesville Cemetery will follow.
Pastor Steve Blaydes (Gentiva Hospice Chaplain) will officiate.
At 3:00 PM light refreshments will take place at Greencastle Christian Church, 620 Primrose Ln., Greencastle, IN.
