Hazel Arlene Bumgardner, longtime Stilesville, IN resident passed away on March 19, 2019. Hazel was born on December 5, 1928 to Charles William and Lora Catherine Hamm Allen in Jellico, TN. Her father was a coal miner and her mother was a homemaker who passed
away a few days after Hazel’s birth. Hazel was raised to age 5 or 6 by her Aunt Emma in Cleveland, OH. After that she went to live with her Aunt Sally in Walnut Grove, KY. until she met her husband, George Randolph Bumgardner. Hazel dedicated herself to living
a Christian life and raising her eight children. She loved waking up early every morning to spend quiet time studying her Bible and talking to God. Hazel’s passion was writing and especially writing poems. Her poems were often honored by poetry.com as being
among the best poems submitted for a particular year. She also co-authored a book of poems, In Silent Flight with Oneita M. Ward and Verna Lillian Price. Hazel loved children and throughout the years cared for many local children. She was famous for making
the best biscuits and gravy
Courteous and obliging to all, kind in heart, and pure in morals, she led an exemplary life and was beloved by her friends and family. Her place in the life of her family can never be filled. That place will know her no more; but wherever there is nobility
of character, wherever there is gentleness of spirit, wherever there are all the things that make for love and peace, there Hazel has found her home. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband George Randolph Bumgardner, her daughter Frances Arlene Bumgardner
Williams, and a great-granddaughter Makayla Ford.
Hazel is survived by her children: Clifford Randolph Bumgardner, (Donna), Ada Catherine Cisneros (Jose), Clark Eugene Bumgardner, Peggy Lee Stone (Mike), Connie Susan Maddox, William Todd Bumgardner, and Timothy Allen Bumgardner. Hazel is also survived by 13
grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Her surviving brothers are David Allen of Phoenix, AZ and Thomas Allen of Marietta, GA. Hazel is also survived by sister-in-law Dorothy Wood.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Bousley Funeral Home, Coatesville. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Amo, Cemetery immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions
may be sent to Heartland Hospice Care or the National Dementia Association. The family would like to express their gratitude for the love and care that was provided by Angela and Morris Bryant and also a special thanks to Clark and Bill Bumgardner for the
personal love and care they provided at home. The family would also like to thank Heartland Hospice Agency for the service and care provided and especially Ellen Veirs hospice RN, Jill Jones hospice attendant, and Chaplain Vey Kidney.
