Hubert W. Chadd, age 86, of Greencastle, passed away June 17, 2017 in The Waters of Greencastle. Born April 12, 1931 in Greencastle, he was the son of Alice Christine (Fitzsimmons) and Fred Chadd. Survivors include sons Bryan Chadd (Rick), Phoenix, AZ and Darren Chadd (Cindy), Morton; Grandsons Chad Evens (Kathy), Greencastle and Ryan Evens (Jake), Bedford, PA; Grandchild Temperance Evens, Greencastle; Nieces Cindy Long (Rick), Greencastle, Nadine Eubank, Bloomington, Becky Zaring, Greencastle, Michelle Abriani (Matt), Auburn, WA; Nephews Hank Grimes, Greencastle, Wayne Grimes (Carol), Greencastle, Mike Zaring (Dondra), Mt. Meridian, Bob Zaring (Tina), Fillmore, Jake Zaring (Debbie), Fillmore, Rodney Eubank (Lisa), Palm Bay, FL, Ryan Huff (Stephanie), Van Buren, AR and several grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Hubert lived on Foxridge, raised a 4-H pig, ran track and played basketball during his youth and was a 1951 graduate of Greencastle High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. In 1955 he married Wilma Ann Zaring, celebrating 50 years of marriage May 15, 2005. After returning from Korea, he worked at the Zaring Processing Plant (Mt. Meridian), owned a Signal gas station (Phoenix) and worked as a welder and heavy machinery operating engineer throughout Indiana for over 45 years. He and Wilma opened Chimayo’s Mexican restaurant on the Greencastle square and also operated Pap’s Fillin’ Station food concessions for over 20 years serving many local festivals, fairs and events. Hubert loved and worked hard providing for his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, pool and checkers, horses, hunting morels, country and bluegrass, driving a truck, guns, rooting for Purdue and surprising local children at Christmas playing Santa. He loved his dogs, grilling food and meeting people over a hot grill. He was a member of Greencastle First Assembly of God, was generous and grateful to Dr. Heavin and all who helped him during his illnesses and stays in the hospital and nursing home. Memorial service will be Sunday, July 2nd at 2:30 pm at the Bill Monroe Music Park, 5163 N. State Rd. 135, Morgantown (Bean Blossom), Indiana. Pap’s Fillin’ Station was a fixture at the Bluegrass Festivals in Bean Blossom for many years. Although he didn’t play, Hubert loved listening to and meeting all the Bluegrass artists. To celebrate Hubert’s life, all his family and friends are invited to come share a story, join the family for grilled sausages and other food & drink, and listen to or join in playing bluegass.
