James I. Fortune, age 70 of Cloverdale, passed away January 24, 2023 in his residence. Born March 14, 1952 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Mark Fortune and Nellie (Sering) Fortune. James worked as an Inspector at AT&T where he retired after 31 years. He then worked at Crown Castle as a Construction Manager, retiring after 18 years. He served in the Army in Alaska for 2 years. He loved fishing, camping, Colorado and Minnesota. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 106 for 5 years in Indianapolis, the same troop that he & his brothers were members of. His son earned his eagle badge under him. He also loved meeting his cronies at Lou's Diner in Cloverdale. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Helen Fortune (McCleary); daughter Kristina Walters(Roy), Cloverdale; son Tim Fortune (Gwynn), Indianapolis; Grandchildren, Madison Bewley (Nathan), Darlington, IN, Shania Fortune, Indianapolis, Miranda Fortune, Indianapolis, Ellavia Best, Indianapolis, and Taliesin Best, Indianapolis; great grandkids, Elleanor Bewley and Raymond Bewley; a brother Mark "Bill" Fortune, Butlerville, IN; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, brothers Mike, Pat and Tom Fortune, and sister Susie Fortune preceded him in death. Per his request, there are no services scheduled at this time.
