The world lost a bright shining soul on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Jason Joseph Bousley was born on a beautiful fall afternoon on October 22, 1971. He was the third son of Carol (Wiswall) and Phil Bousley. He was welcomed into the world by his brother Brian Bousley. There was never a dull moment with the Bousley Brothers. Jason was an avid swimmer with the Vincennes Sharks. He was even invited to go to the Olympic Time Trials. He was a basketball star at Rivet High School where he graduated in 1990. Jason went on to Vincennes University and graduated in 1992 with an Associates Degree in Funeral Services. He worked as a funeral director in Terre Haute, Greencastle, and then returned to work in Terre Haute.
In November of 2003, Jason’s hit gold when he met his future wife Koren Beam. The two were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend and were immediately attached at the hip. It was a perfect match. They married on June 23, 2007 in Terre Haute and immediately started a family. Abigail Joann (AJ) was born in 2008, and Jakob Van was born in 2010. Their daddy thought the sun rose and set on them. He loved watching them follow in his footsteps when they too became great swimmers. The family’s focus has always been on spending time together and having fun because that is what their daddy valued most.
In 2011, Jason and Koren escaped corporate America when they bought Bousley Funeral Home in Coatesville, Indiana. The community accepted them with open arms, and the business has grown under their stewardship. In 2013, Koren opened Fleurs de Beausoleil despite Jason’s exasperation with her because he hated flowers, but what she wanted he always made come true. Thanks to his love, she found her passion for flowers, and Jason was able to see the beauty in what she created. At Jason’s urging, Koren became a licensed funeral director as well. Jason was never more proud of her. They loved working side by side and hand in hand.
Jason was larger than life. He always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. The man never met a stranger. Everyone he ever crossed paths with he counted as a friend. Jason was always up for a good time and a cold beer, preferably Miller Lite. He was kind to a fault, charismatic, and loving. Our lives and hearts are shattered. The foundation of our family is cracked. But Jason has been working for years to teach Koren what she needed in order to go on; looking back, he always knew he would leave us early. With time we will heal and will be whole again.
Visitation will be held at the Bousley Funeral Home Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 3pm to 7pm with a candlelight service at 7pm. Jason will be cremated and remain at home with Koren and the kids until it is her time to rejoin him and then their ashes will be spread together on the beach which was always their favorite place.
Koren, AJ, and Jakob have requested that you put a story or memory of Jason, preferably funny, on paper to gift to them.
