Other survivors include grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Kristen, Kara, Laura, Chelse, Christopher and Austin; 9 great grandchildren; sisters Sara and husband Gene Havey, Carol Jacobs; brothers, Jim and wife Carolyn, and Don and wife Lynn, sister in law Ann wife of George and Joyce wife of Joe. He was preceded in death by his parents Forrest and Luetta Payne, mother in law Ruth Baldwin, grandchildren Brian, Michael and Stephen Payne. brothers George and Joe, sister Sharon, brother in law Mike Jacobs and nephews Jimmy Payne and Genie Havey.

He served in the Korean War proudly for the Navy for 4 years. He worked for Allison Transmission in Indianapolis for 36 years before retiring in 1997. He was an avid reader, storyteller, and historian. He spent many years traveling in their motorhome all over the US, Canada and Alaska. He loved to hunt and fish with his boys . And he cherished his dog Trixie.

Private services are being held on Tuesday from 4-7pm at the Bousley-Hays Funeral Home in Coatesville on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St Jude Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
