Jesse David Spurlock of Coatesville passed away at home on October 1, 2023. He was born in Indianapolis on April 26, 1932 to Gertrude Emma (Balay) and Walter Vernon Spurlock. Jesse is survived by his children Diane (Kirk) Batten of Clayton, Kathy (Larry)
Shaw of Coatesville, Peggy (Ken) Breece of Indianapolis, and Phillip (Rhonda) Spurlock of Coatesville; grandchildren Lana Vazquez of Clinton, John David (Sarah) Leffler of Plainfield, Charity (Jeff) Coffman of Martinsville, Lance (Brittnee) Shaw of Greencastle,
Gabe Batten of Monrovia, Jodi (Troy) Gabbard of Indianapolis, and Carrie Spurlock of Coatesville; great grandchildren Skyler Vazquez, Cooper & Jase Coffman, JJ Leffler, Olivia, Lilah, and Macy Gabbard; sister Ethel Spurlock; brothers-in-law Jim (Nancy) Baker
and Bill Walls; sister-in-law Donna Baker; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Gertie and Walter; wife of 59 years Janet (Baker) Spurlock; 4 sisters and 2 brothers. Jesse began working at the age of 19 in 1951 at Linkbelt
as a screw machine operator. He took a break from the factory from 1952-1954 when he joined the Unites States Army and was stationed in Sapporo, Japan with the 15th Medical Division. Jesse and Janet were married on October 2, 1955. After his military service
he returned to Linkbelt which has changed names several times and retired in 1996. Jesse was also a farmer. He loved working his own land. Make no mistake; he was a red tractor man - International Harvester. He enjoyed watching western shows, especially Grit.
Jesse was known to go out to eat often and loved a good steak. Above all else, Jesse loved the Lord and his family. He was a member of the Church of the First Born 252 in Martinsville, Indiana. His was so devout that when he was baptized on February 2 1962,
they had to break the ice to get to the water.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 4th from 4PM to 8PM at the Bousley Funeral Home in Coatesville, Indiana. Funeral services will be held the following day at 12PM, noon. Pastors Max Piercefield and Jim Ellis will officiate. Burial will follow in
the Coatesville Cemetery.
