Lela Mae Smyth, age 97, Danville, formerly of Coatesville, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Village of Avon. She was born on May 1, 1920 at Coatesville, IN the daughter of Olney and Hazel Figg Phillips. She married Herschel Smyth on August 17, 1940 and he preceded her in death on May 29, 1975. She was the valedictorian for the Amo High School class of 1938. She had worked at the Coatesville Herald, Collier Lumber, Danville State Bank, and had been the Clerk-Treasurer for the Town of Coatesville from 1984 to 1988. She had been a faithful volunteer for the Hendricks County Hospital Guild. She was a 71 year member of the Coatesville United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sons – Gene (Lela) Smyth, Indianapolis, Ed (Barbara) Smyth, Amo, John (Beverly) Smyth, Charlestown, SC., Ted (Kathy) Smyth, Mooresville; 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister – Agnes Burroff, Greencastle, and a brother – Clifford (Louise) Phillips, Greencastle. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM at the Coatesville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Coatesville Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
