Melba Jean Siddons Broadstreet July 5, 1926 – January 1, 2026
Melba Broadstreet of Stilesville, IN lived a blessed life for nearly a century. The past thirteen years she resided at Asbury Towers in Greencastle and made friends on every floor. Beautiful, benevolent, bright, conversational, discerning, empathetic, faithful, grateful, humble, kind, loving, musical, open-minded, and well-dressed are words loved ones used for Mom/Grandma.
Melba married the love of her life Charles Broadstreet; they adored one another for 69 years. They raised four wonderful children on their farm. As a youth, Melba was nurtured at the Greencastle Christian Church and her faith grew exponentially as a Member of Walnut Chapel Friends Meeting.
Through her 99 years she saw beauty all around her. She found joy in the simple things this life offers such as hanging the clothes on the line in the sunshine. She always found the blue sky in a sea of clouds and had a love for birds, which she could name by their calls.
Melba was born to Paul T. and Neva P. Siddons. She shared how her mom made all of her childhood clothing and how her father had various jobs, including flipping and renting houses. After learning basic chords on the piano from one of those renters, Melba taught herself and eventually served as the pianist at Walnut Chapel Friends for over 50 years. Through age 98 she tickled the ivories for all to enjoy. Without fail Melba would express how fortunate she was to have lived a long life full of wonderful experiences, a doting spouse, caring loved ones, church family, many good friends, and compassionate caregivers.
It is her faith that comforts family to believe that she has heard the words, “well done good and faithful servant.” As for those she loved and who loved her, it is now time to “inhale, exhale, it is well, it is well.” –Morgan Harper Nichols Predeceased by: Charles Broadstreet (spouse); Daniel Broadstreet (son); Paul and Neva Siddons (parents); Kenneth Siddons (brother); and Juanita Foxx (sister).
