Philippe Kuhr, 70, passed away July 22, 2021, in Indianapolis. He was the son of Gerhard and Yvonne (Seche) Kuhr.
Phil was born April 10, 1951 at la Grande Villatte in Nozay, France, while Yvonne and Gerhard were employed at the Chateau de la Touche. They immigrated to the US when he was 2, settling eventually in Melrose Park, Illinois. There he attended Rhodes Elementary School and East Leyden High School. He went on to serve in the US Navy as a gunman on the USS Josephus Daniels during the Vietnam War. After returning, he married Deborah Kasperek and became the father of Michelle Kuhr. He was employed in the print shop of Jewel/Osco for many years. Later in life, he married Shelley Hackel and became step-father to Cleo residing in Downer’s Grove IL. Afterwards they moved to Indianapolis. Phil was a hard worker and an excellent cook. He especially enjoyed going fishing.
He is survived by his wife Shelley in Jacksonville FL, daughter Michelle (Andy) Zimmerman of Chicago, step-daughter Cleo of Palm Desert, brother Patrick (Debbie) Kuhr of River Grove IL, sister Anita (Ken) Berger of Rockford IL, and nieces and nephew Sarah, Brianna, Erik, Martina, and Sophia.
Interment planned for Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida, summer of 2022.
