Edward William Harlan, beloved Husband, Dad, and Papa, passed away at his home in Danville, IN on October 18, 2023. He was born on January 11, 1937, to Daisy Edith (Risk) and Faye Herbert Harlan.
Edward was a 1954 graduate of Warren Central High School. From 1954 to 1957 he served his country in the U.S. Army Fifth Armored Division in Munich, Germany as a Paratrooper.
On April 7, 1960, he married the love of his life Shirley Kay Deckard. Together the couple have 4 daughters. Their first-born twin daughters reside in heaven. God blessed them with two more daughters, Tracy Lynn Harlan, and Teresa Dianne Stephens.
Edward owned Harlan Photography Studio in Indianapolis for 35 years. He also worked as a welder for Kennedy Tank, a courier for Shaller Courier Service, and enjoyed being a FedEx tug operator. His last and most fulfilling job was working alongside his son-in-law Mike at the family company, Cornerstone Metal Fabricators, Inc.
Edward is survived by his wife Shirley; daughters Tracy Lynn Harlan (Mitch King) and Teresa Dianne (Michael) Stephens; grandchildren Lindsey Brooke (Jonathan) Randall, Benjamin Edward (Sarah Elizabeth) Stephens, Reagan Noelle (Roman) Holowka, Annie Grace Stephens, Eli Jacob Stephens, and Lincoln Asher Stephens; great grandchildren Levi Michael Randall, Norah Jane Stephens, Evelyn Jane Randall, Finley Robert Stephens, and Bowen Riggs Randall; and brother Gene Allen (Geraldine) Harlan. He was preceded in death by his parents Faye and Daisy Harlan, his twin baby girls, and his eldest brother Jim.
Edward was a kind and compassionate man, who loved life, loved to travel, and always sought out new adventures. He was passionate about music and playing his guitar. He was not a materialistic person. He loved spending quality time with his family and friends. And a good cup of coffee.
He was a very strong man of faith who never wavered from his favorite Bible verse Acts 2:38. He loved the Lord and showed the love of Jesus to his family in all that he did. He never met a stranger. He sought opportunities to share Jesus with those who crossed his path.
As a family, our prayer is to follow in his footsteps and continue his legacy of sharing Jesus with those around us. He will be greatly missed.
