Elgie Leon Sanders, 94, of Danville passed away on April 15, 2023. He was born March 26, 1929 to Ralph and Rosa (Long) Sanders near Somerset, Kentucky. He moved many times as a child, but remembered most living near Clinton Falls in Putnam County in the
1930s. Elgie had many fond memories of his years at Perry Central High School, especially as a player and captain of the basketball team. His love of basketball continued as a devoted Purdue Boilermaker fan. He married Betty Ann Sanders in 1950, and together
they spent 58 years living and raising their family on a small farm near Fillmore, Indiana. Elgie was employed at Allison Transmission for 30 years as a jobsetter, retiring in 1980. He was also a bus driver for 20 years with the North Putnam School Corporation.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Ann; sister Effie Parks; brothers Lester, Ershel, and Bill Sanders; and special friend Norma Humphrey. Elgie is survived by his children and their spouses, daughter Rita (Greg) Coulter of Indianapolis, sons Jeff (Peg)
Sanders of Speedway and Randall “Buck” (Vicki) Sanders of Bainbridge; grandchildren Clay (Jenny) Coulter, Tanner (Erin) Coulter, Craig (Emily) Sanders, and Jace (Britt) Sanders; great grandchildren Evan, Alex, Cooper and Parker Coulter, Finley and Olivia Sanders;
and brother Jerry Clyde (Nancy) Sanders of Brownsburg. Services will be held at 1PM on Thursday, April 20 at Grace Baptist Church in Coatesville with visitation from 11AM until time of service. Burial will follow at Fillmore Cemetery. Bousley Funeral Home
has been entrusted with Elgie’s care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elgie’s name to the Hendricks County Senior Services in Danville.
